I'm thinking we buy an old boat hoist that has it's own wheels and try that into a mobile 3d house printer.

send me some pictures here, I might evaluate your idea from an engineering point of view.

You might not find large enough steppers or servos to carry it, but any hidraulic motor can be made into a closed loop encoder now days.

they are motorized, steerable and can handle a lot of weight so very sturdy.... they just need the x y and z rails and motors bingo

You need a gantry to do the Z on which the X runs.

Or to simplify you can run it in the Delta printer mode, with the objection that for more than just a bungalow, the height is not enough.

You might want to double them legs in height for a cottage.

yes, I agree. Additional dimensional structure could be added on all axis as needed for job requirements. But this would make a great structure to start with and If your doing a housing addition, just drive it over to the next lot and start printing. :)

Also, that is not a small sailboat... most of these are 20+ feet tall to start with.

20 feet is a narrow house mate... lol
