3D Printing Furniture is trending now, the optimized design and giant scale FDM printer gives an ultra speed of printing process.
This color changing chair is directly 3D printed in whole unit, with 8mm large nozzle and 3m x 7m giant build size, it only took 8 hrs to finish the chair!
Check the thick layer width :)
I was working on this as a school project for a local artist 10 years ago :)
Wow, that's impressive :) Did you use 3D printer back then?
No a big ass industrial robot, we didn't even had a slicer. I spend couple of evenings programming a simple cube. Dirk Kooi is the artist he still sells these chairs.
Wow robot arm... Really a high-end player lol
Damn! That looks quite cool!
Thought if I might inquire:
How large of a printhead does this printer have? (Given that it has an 8mm nozzle, and also quite good detail for the speed at which it would need to be traveling to achieve the print-time.)
And what are the costs of the material used for such a chair? (Not out of business, but rather out of curiosity.)
Greetings!

This was when I did the project:

You can check the printhead in this image:
It's a sitting chair with 60cm size :)
This is the printed chair.
As for the printing cost, it's almost the same as regular PLA 3D printing: around $0.07-0.12/gram for these projects :)
3D printing makes an industry that can be created around the world without leaving a footprint. Benefit is a reduction in shipping, air travel and road travel. It is also possible for spare parts to be produced on site and that can help to significantly reduce the carbon footprint.
Epic!
Brilliant summary !
Those are some very stylish looking pieces of furniture! And the fact that they're made with mostly recycled material is... Well, combined with how they're made I think they're seriously cool!
Also quite a sizable and hefty machine, quite something different than most 3D printers I've seen in action so far.
Thanks for these interesting showings!

Damn, also very much a sizable machine!
And they look very much like nifty furniture, and still comfortable, very cool!
And for the price... That's... Quite noticeable during testing I presume.
Recycled material would probably cut down on the cost strongly, but presumable at the cost of other things (like process and precision).
But very nifty none-the-less!
~Sjaak
Thanks! We can use recycled plastic for testing, but considering the strength and durability, it's safer to use reinforced compound for actual furnitures :)
The printhead, we uses was just an extruder like you get when you are making filament. It also took granulate.
Although notas strong as the FDM chairs, this table made on a PolyJet printer allows for some pretty incredible aesthetics. So the potential of using 3D printing for furniture could impact not only function and speed, but design and artistic creativity.
Damn.... This is sick! We have PolyJet printer as well, and I smell the cash burning lol.
Polyjet is terrific, however the cost of making such big creative object will surely cost a fortune, but that is stunningly beautiful!
That's almost a standard configuration for huge FDM machine :) Since the 1.75mm and 3mm won't be able to feed the large nozzle :D
