That happend when autodesk can not find some of the component of the assemblie

an assembly file is just a reference file , pulling all the parts together.

if you right click the assembly icon and select the resolve command then you can re reference the part files to the assembly.

That usually happens when the components have been deleted or saved in a different from the reference folder.

If you download an assembly, make sure you download all the components referenced by the assembly as well.

How is your project file set up? All custom and non content center components, regardless it is a part or an assembly needs be be under the workspace folder of the active project file (IPT).

When creating assemblies, I only use parts I make, which are out of the Inventor files (.ipt). My main problem is, even if I make all of my pieces in my computer, not deleting any of them, I still come up with the aforementioned unresolved components error.

I use pieces from different folders quite frequently, is sourcing them from different folders a problem?

Sourcing from different folders can be an issue, if you do not set up your project file to look at those folders. Inventor's project file is like and umbrella, and all files need to reside under it. When I do contract work I will create folders for each customer's "project" and ensure all those folders are under a workspace folder too. I also create folders for Templates, Design Data and Content center files. But in general, all of the folders that I have created for data will go under a main folder along the IPJ (project file). I will also edit my IPJ edit to read those folders.

Notice in my image, I have created a main folder call _C_n_H and then I created a New Project file in Inventor and saved it in the root of that folder. Next, I create a folder called Designs, then in Inventor I changed the Path of my Workspace to look into that folder. I repeated that process for Content Center Files and Libraries.

You also do the same for Design Data and Templates, but not they do not effect file sourcing.

You will also notice that I have created other folders under the Designs folder for each customer I have. As long as I keep all the files under the Designs folder I never have issues with file sourcing. If you are new to project files I would not worry so much about re-pathing the Content center files, for that can be another thread discussion. I hope this helps.

If you decide to path template and Design Data, you will need to copy that data from your default project location to the new locations.

Why Inventor make it so complicated the referencing? When it would be easier to have a common folder to pull the part needed no matter where the folder is? Too many steps and unresolved procedures. I like the answers in how to fix it, but it would be much easier to keep one part in a common place rather than under the under under...
