Hey everyone! Just wanted to get your input on how you save space for large files. I've been working on some projects and they've been taking longer and longer to open/save due to the large file sizes. I want to reduce the file sizes as much as possible, but still retain relevant information. For instance, I have variations of the same part, from different revision levels, as reference for what changed from before, just in case I have to backtrack and revert to the previous design change level.


What are some tips for how you save space when working on a project.

loading-time can be increase dramatically if you supress the unused parts.

I would suggest using logically ordered "level of details"

Using LOD can also create a large file size.

Another consideration is that all of your mates and joints are probably slowing you down, I wrote some iLogic code that will delete all mates and joints, and then ground the components in your model, the code is available here:

Also watch out for third party files that are in surface form.
