Autodesk Inventor is pretty expensive ($1,985/year for 1 license)... Also it’s pretty high level and powerful (has many features that many users don’t need). All of this and other factors make Inventor less popular when compared to something like Fusion 360.
I think its actualy cheaper than the likes of Solidworks but becouse Solidworks allows the use of 'free versions' if your in university, many engineers and designers leave uni having done courses where it was used and they were tought how to use it.
So when they get jobs they know how to use it and push the company to purchase licences for it.
Inventor is also free to students for 3 years under the normal conditions that it won't be used commercially. I learned on it this way. I think it is more powerful than many need but less complex and a lot cheaper than solid works.
Without any doubt-Inventor is a higher-level program even more productive than Solidworks . Just looking at the"Fasten", "Frame", "Power Transmission", "Spring" panels. These are powerful computational and simultaneously 3D auto-simulation generators. These are truly unmatched tools for high-performance mechanical design. A gear or mechanism element for a few seconds and the necessary physical parameters is already in the 3D model. For a more detailed analysis, look at the "Begin" panel. This is a program for advanced designers.
In a word - it's "Autodesk"...
I am new to Grab-Cad. In South Africa Inventor is a lot more expensive that other Software like Solidworks. Most of the people in me industry say Inventor is more complicated to learn compared to Solidwork and other apps. I found this to be true... but Inventor is far superior.
Inventor has a free "student" version. I download the latest version each year.
Inventors main rival is Solidworks ...I use both if you can use one you can use the other.Solidworks has better surfacing tools and there 3d sketch tools are better it was always Invs weak point in comparison, there used to be very little difference price wise but you need to go back in time to see why SW were way in front than most if you were doing complex surfacing and 3d sketches you could see why they were king of the hill they had things that others didn't have, like all programs they have things you'll like and those you won't depends what you do,NX & Rhino are good too.I started with autocad then inventor but use solidworks more now...the history of cad is a great subject look at fusion it wouldn't exist if it wasn't for rhinos t splines
I would like to make you know, that in my country, is the most used software. Many courses offer to teach you this software. it's strange to find solidworks courses
Every country is different it's only the last 5 years that you can get training from start to finish in Inventor I'd go to places 9 years ago and I'd ask and they thought I meant AutoCAD🤷♂️it became very frustrating but at that time Solidworks had more users than all the other 3d packages combined that gives you an idea why it was harder to find training start to finish I'm glad thing's have changed as I started in Inv and still use it.
I joined Grandad early 2012 hoping to find lots of Inv user's but there wasn't so to see so many more now is great
You can use T-Splines in Inventor too
Yes I use Inventor and was waiting for it when Autodesk bought it from Rhino it's a good tool and Inv is a great bit of kit I've always liked using it it was my first 3d program
