That's sweet! It reminds me of a small batch bike brand out of California, they have a design with similar overall aesthetics. I'm hoping to do the same some day.

Brooklyn Machine Works is sick. I was thinking of a dude out in California who makes his own frames. It starts with a P... I forget exactly. I can't remember if it was high pivot or not though.

He uses a pinion gearbox, I can't afford to buy the gearbox. I got quoted 2500 EURO just for the box :(
Yeah that's them! Damn that's a lot. It's cool seeing you guys build this stuff. One of my friends builds, welds, and paints his own road, dirt jump, and XC hardtail frames. It seems like a lot of fun!
Of course it's a lot of fun! But it's also a lot of money. In my case it was the reason I never bulit a frame :( I have no possibility to manufacture the parts for a low price. If ordering all the machined parts and paying for welding etc. the frame would cost ~4.000 - 5.000 € which is a lot...
It's cheap if you can do it all yourself.
The material for the front triangle cost me about $100
Lots of time machining and welding though, I had to make a frame jig too as I didn't have one so there is more time.
Where did you source your material from? Just curious as I'm thinking of trying out a few small aluminum projects.
Here is a replica of my downhill front wheel. It features DT Swiss parts and a Shimano Rotor. I hope this is helpful to you guys in your projects!

Very good work! Why didn't you actually take the frame dimensions from the Trek website and use them in a skeleton which is the base for the measured dimensions on the hardware frame? I think the result would be more precise.
Do you plan to make a complete assembly of the bike?
I have begun working on fixing the scaling issue and will hopefully get a complete assembly of the entire bike!

Hi Alex.
It's a pretty simple jig using 40x40 extrusion.
Pictured is the second design of the frame and this is 4130 chromo as I broke the al. one haha, the geo points for the pivots had too much load on the DT and bent it.
It rides so GOOD, I'm now working on version 3 to make it a bit lighter and fix a couple of minor issues I found.
I don't have my hard drive with the files so can't post them sorry.
I'll get to it when I can.

Beautiful frame! Are you thinking about painting/powder coating or just leaving it raw? Very inspiring seeing you build this stuff. I might just have to build my own down the road!

I have the pivot up on the top tube for 2 reasons. 1 is its an updated version of a Brooklyn machine works "race link" and 2nd, I like the straight line from the head tube to the rear axle.. It looks Nice I think.
Make sure you post some pictures of the frame and jig, I never built a hard tail so so I'm keen to see it.
It swingarm is stable as, a weld has failed so I'm fixing that but it has no flex.
Thanks bud, think about all the things you love about the session and think how it could be cooler. Draw that and build .. If you think of it as lots of small parts that fit together its not a big task.
It's really cool to see some hand bulit bike, keep on!
If a weld of the swingarm fails, the swing arm might be too stiff?
Sometimes a little bit of flex may prevent breaking of parts because there is some area to move for them under load.

We just thought starting with a Hardtail builds a good base of knowledge before we step up the Game and build a Fully...did you weld on your own? Did you use Bracing (Silver? or Brass?) or Tig Welding?

Tig man, tig all the way. Lots of people braze and oxy with great results, I just like tig.
The weld failed because it was a shit weld, nothing to do with flex or rigidity.
I used 40/40 because I had it in stock for my jig, if I make another I will use 40/80 for the main beam so it'll be more rigid. Use that for the vertical piece. Looks good though.
I expect to see a finished frame by the end of the weekend.. :)
the orange ones are 30/30 and the "White" ones are 30/60.
haha yea sure...theres so much more things to learn before we start welding.
First of all we want to finish the Jig this month.
Then we will have to worry about the Tools to measure the Frame after welding. Cause we dont want it to be all funky :D
I personally come from Body work/Car Paint so iam used to MIG welding. and also working with lead (Car Body Repair). Iam excited to learn new Welding techniques like brassing or TIG.
I got told brassing is just easier to start with.
