Close. This is what I started with too. I just didn't like that the 3D Sketch remained as a feature. If it were absorbed into the sketch driven pattern I'd have been happy.
This is my two-feature solution:
The "trick" is using a 3D sketch to define the direction for a linear pattern. And of course knowing that a 3D sketch can be extruded.
That is a fantastic solution. I approached with Solidworks Tools in mind and not the pattern really. Now that I look back, I should have given myself some more time to understand the pattern and started working on it. :)
Make a new challenge :)
These things are hard to think up, I need help making them.
First solution - Just 3D sketch extruded
Second one + one more extrude to fill the gap at the back of the model, which we do not see in the task
This is exactly I was trying to do where I failed. WHat a solution ..liked it!
can you please upload the file of the same? I still cannot get it :(
Instead created the exact 3 sketches as shown. It will fill the gap and you have it in single feature itself ;) you just made cubes at bottom. Create the L shape and 2nd feature is to combine them ;)
Yep, I think you are right. But why I need to combine them? There was no restrictions to number of solid bodies...
Just saying...the puzzle shows single body so...else it is just one feature model :D
I don't think it is possible to determine if the original image suggests a single body, 6 bodies, or even 10 bodies (4 hidden on the backside).
With my Linear Patter solution I had to leave individual bodies. I think Grisanin's excellent solution can still be done in a single feature, and have a single body. The sketches just need to be drawn a little different so the extrusion is allowed to overlap itself a little and prevent those "Zero thickness" errors.
Good work on the different solutions. I like to see that there are different, and often better solutions than the one I come up with.
Then I think original solution from FredSWUG must have 3 features, because after linear pattern feature he must have the same 6 solid bodies as I am, if I'm not mistaken
Yup, I've got 6 bodies in there. I just hid the feature manager line for number of solid bodies... No sense giving too many clues away :)
Correct. My bad. Sorry for the confusion
