CAD Puzzles & Riddles

It may seem trivial at the first glance, especially since one might suggest making it like this: Extruded Boss > Extruded Cut > Chamfer, but I suggest you take a closer look at the chamfer :)

This is my first attempt using 4 features:

I just can't understand why "Low Feature Count" is a challenge, when in a Feature Based CAD software number of features won't matter. It is just wrong to spent much more time sketching, to create hard to manage sketches just to have less features. LOL

One of the marks of a good designer is the ability to follow directions and stay within the predefined constraints for a project whether you like it or not. The constraints of this challenge are to do a model with the least number of features and to not post the answer on the challenge page.

When the astronauts of Apollo 13 were on their return trip from the moon. The engineers had a limited amount of time and resources to design the CO2 scrubber adaptor. It did not matter if they needed more features to make it a better or simpler design. They had to make it work with the minimum number of components available. If they failed, the astronauts died. Would you be complaining that the scrubber adaptation was a bad design because it needed more features or would you be working within the limited constraints to make it happen?

I’m not sure what to make of someone unable or unwilling to follow even the most basic instructions for a simple project like a low feature count challenge. And on top of that, committed to ruining the fun for everybody else!

It is just a activity within this group 1. to get to know other approaches/ideas to modelling. 2. it is fun.

I don't have the Asymmetric chamfer option in my SW. I had to do it another way. 5 Features.

3 simple features. Inventor evidently uses a different density for ABS so we'll have to compare volume which looks correct.

I'm pretty sure SW 2015 can do an asymmetric chamfer (check this out).

I edited your image and hid your feature tree, and I hope you stick to the challenge's rules even if you don't agree with what the challenge is made for.

PS Bob & SolidTweaks explained it nicely, and I'll sum it up by saying that the main goal here is to have fun and explore the capabilities of the software we use by pushing it to the extreme.

Again, Inventor uses a different ABS density so go by the volume.

well I waited for a while but here she is with only 1 feature. Would never ever do it this way as it takes ages,

What does it matter if no one shows their features... you could just use a snag tool and fudge it... All who got 3, please share and educate us.

If one is the answer... could just make a Step model and import it for 1 feature.... Simple to win but doesn't go to the heart of the challenge ;)

You could, but the moment we release the Solution Discussion of that challenge, you'll be busted.

As for the imported model method, we've made a rule specifically for that, as well as feature folders.

PPS As expected, I've hidden the features in your screenshot. Hope you stick to the challenge's rules from now on.

In future challenges it would be a good idea to post a link to the basic rules.
