Hi Manish,

You can export 3Dxml file from the default file system in these CAD environments and you can import to the respective CAD systems again but need to keep in mind below points:

• File should always be opened in higher version of CAD environment (e.g. R19 file can be opened in R20,21,27,29...etc. but vice versa not possible)
• 3dxml file can show your product structure but you can not make any modifications on any part or feature.
• 3dxml file does not contain change history or modification features (complete loss of parametric feature)

Thank you very much for your quick reply. Yes i am aware that we will loos the version history of the object.

• But do we also loose the state of the object like if part is released when it will be reimported it will be in inwork state. Can we preserve the state?
• Even though if data after import coming in inwork state will not be editable?
• If we want to rebuild the parametric data, is it required lot of manual effort? As I need to do this for multiple Assemblies any automation or batch work is preferred to avoid errors and fast result.
• Does this export and import take lot of time? Any mechanism by which we can measure it before actually we do ?

Once part is release in any PDM system, it is not longer in working state with that revision, must be update the revision showing some modifications.

Depends which PLM/PDM system you are using for release process, you can make working revisions before final release.

And yes 3dxml data is non editable and loss of parametric features and it is very difficult to redevelop the parametric data from 3dxml and required manual rebuilding process from scratch.

Depends on which platform you want to export and import data.

Thanks Amresh. I am trying to export the NX, CREO and CATIAV5 data and import to 3DX.

In that case you can go for .step file export, where you can generate parametric CAD models from that dumb solid and generate each feature easily with accurate shape and size using remastering process.
