I would like to put forward X3D as a potential import. By legacy, it is the continuation of the VRML spec (by the Web3D consortium). It is seeing increased use in the academic community - largely pushed by the NIH 3D print exchange. Given vrml is already supported, I imagine this additional import is relatively minimal to include.
As a con, I also recognize that the X3D file is not used much outside of the academic community.
