Drones Design

I am interested in old WW2 aircraft and I followed the discovery of the lost squadron of (6) P-38 'Lightning' aircraft that were forced to land in Greenland during the war. Since then they have been covered in under 260 feet of ice.

Here's the movie version : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1ImYuzQxE4

One of the aircraft was discovered in 1992 and brought back up thru a 5 meter hole cut into the ice. Here the history : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacier_Girl

And here's some other articles :

Anyway there was a different recovery group called the "Fallen American MIA Repatriation Foundation" that is going again after another P-38 but this time they are using a drone to locate and find the planes and also another rare amphibious plane:

They are using Ground Penetrating RARAR (GPR) to locate the plane in hours instead of days which is critical in this extreme weather environment :

As such they have located a P-38 code named 'echo' using GPR : http://warbirdsnews.com/warbirds-news/found-lost-squadron-p-38-piloted-by-lt-col-robert-wilson.html

The scanning techniques and software models are here in case you are interested in the technology they used : https://geo-matching.com/content/new-approach-to-use-ground-penetrating-radar-gpr-integrated-with-a-drone-uav
