So here's your downhill battle - regen braking is so effective that it will slow the vehicle down very fast.

So if you want to generate a lot of power you will need to increase the mass and the angle down hill to create more torque. However as your slope increase so does your speed and you will probably run out of down hill before you can get real power back in.

Regenerative braking is really good for just than - braking. And the only penalty is cost as the efficiency is very low (as you already know). So since bicycles are so light weight in mass, its not likely to get any power from this method. Sad but true !

Do you think there is another alternative for that, method other than regen braking?

Not really - just using some type of charger is best. Sizing the batteries to handle the typical daily load is what's important as well as sizing the motor torque based upon your needs.

Just peddling from a dead stop helps to reduce battery drain.

Also, charging at sites where the bicycle is idle is the best idea to reduce cost and complexity. This minimizes the bicycle, but puts more emphasis on the charging stations or the ability to plug-in anywhere. Fast charging helps but reduces battery life by putting excessive loading internal (heating) to the battery and the electrodes.

Not sure about this, but do you think it is a great idea to have a dynamo (generator) to convert our mechanical energy from paddling the bike to charging the battery, or if its going to hurt the performance of the bicycle badly?

Well 6 Watts @ 12 volts = 0.5 amps, but for how long ? And how much drag ?

A typical battery pack charger has to regulate the voltage to 4.2V maximum and supply constant current with a preferred charging of 0.2C, which for a 3,500 mA cell is 700 mA (very close) ! But in regulating down the conversion efficiency is not good. :-(

The drag is, well figuratively speaking, a drag, and is not fun. Not many people want to pedal against a heavy drag unless you are looking for an 'exercise' bike. Perhaps down-hill would be good, since it costs you very little effort, but I don't suppose that people would take to this much.
