Electric Motorcycles & Electric Bicycles

One of the biggest issues for any industry is standardization such that companies can focus on its core technologies and not having to worry about market acceptance due to incompatibilities between various manufacturers for parts, components, and sub-systems.

The big elephant in the room for any electric device is the battery ! And the electric vehicle industry is no different. Although there is yet to be any standardization among the various car manufacturers, the electric motorcycle and possibly the electric bicycle industry is already moving in that directions, despite (and in fact because) there is not wide spread acceptance.

This is critical in terms of timing since the swappable battery pack is a 'green field' or more like a 'blue sea' opportunity for standardization NOW *before* competition heats up and there are too many variations on who-has-what.

Think in terms of simple AC power worldwide and how many standards there are for that ! (e.g. 100 /120 / 200 / 240 and then the frequency as either 50 or 60 Hertz) !

So YES it is important that the major players decide which direction NOW and to make sure that there are *reasonable* accommodations for a standardized pack that most can agree on. (e.g. USB or Bluetooth).

So far Honda has take the lead on this with Yamaha and a couple of lesser but no less important players :

So depending on how many others come on board, that the standardization will help push technologies forward to lower costs and speed up the market acceptance to an electric vehicle vision.
