Jason. Can it be rebuilt??

Sure it can be rebuilt ! And with less money than originally since only the antenna needs rebuilding.

However the bigger question is should it be rebuilt as it was or should it be designed using the best of today's technologies ?

Since the antenna and reflector is destroyed, it will definitely need replacing, but should it be redesigned and all of the support equipment updated as well ?

The Very Large Array (VLA) is going thru a modernization and is making it one of the best in the world (if not the best) over the entire spectrum:

The same could be said about the Arecibo Observatory. What should the next generation of radio astronomy should it be ?

I know at the moment we live in uncertain times and some in serious hardship but if we give up as a people the effects will echo for generations. These are the times we find out who and what we are.

Can it be rebuilt. Without question it is possible.

It could be built bigger, faster, more efficient and way better using state of the art materials and technologies.

There are many big questions that will be asked at the initial stage.

Should it be done, how should it be done, who will manage it, cost effectiveness, value to us as a society etc... the list goes on.

Our goal is to get that ball rolling simply to ask those questions.
