Reverse the PTO rotation of 26hp air cooled internal combustion engine
I have come to believe I have 2 viable choices for making this happen. 1. designing a inline helical bevel gear box using captured spider gears tor reverse rotation. Or 2. making the gasoline engine run backwards. Yes, there are other methods. The two methods I have chosen both have pros and cons for my application. The gearbox design is great because no modification need be done to the engine, thus stock engine will work. The negative on a gearbox is weight, decreased fuel economy, more moving parts to break. Making the engine run backwards requires me to make specialized parts and install into the engine. If one of these parts break, then a new part will have to be made. On the other hand, no gearbox to break, no increased fuel consumption due to drag, no real increase in weight. The engine is a 26hp air cooled engine. I have a good knowledge of engines and mechanical design.
So if I decide to build a gearbox, then I need help in the design. I am willing to pay a reasonable fee for the help in getting this into CAD. If I decide to reverse engine rotation, then I probably can handle that myself and just hire engine shops to manufacture the parts I need.
Just asking for input from anyone that has any ideas or works with gears and gearboxes.
