I've created the following design assignment for my students. What do you think? What should I improve?

Furniture design assignment

The students are required to design a chair with the given set of design constraints.

For Example:

Parts provided can't be modified.
Only parts provided can be used.
Common house hold tools can be used to assemble furniture.

Takeaways examples:

Understanding ergonomics, form, function and design.
Work given a set of constraints (parts, design, budget).

Once a student has completed a design, they are then tasked in explaining visually how to assembly their furniture.

Students will be reviewed based on the following:

Peer evaluation -example: is it easy to assemble?
Complexity -example: are the instructions legible?

Takeaway examples:

Relationships of sub assemblies and the main assembly.
Conveying assembly and sub assemblies on paper.

I teach students of many mixed backgrounds from architects, engineers, to designers. One of the schools that I teach at uses solidworks, inventor and autocad. The above assignment was done in inventor with drawings from autocad.

I'm open to suggestions on improving the assignment. I have the parts on a local drive. How can I upload them to this discussion?

Ι am not sure you can upload them in yhe duscussion here. I also teach furniture design and CAD CAM. I use all these software you memtioned and lately I use also Fusio because its very efficiently for the CAM digital manufacturing..

Hi Ruben,

The only thing i can see is that in the drawings of the screws/bolts in the kit list don't show the threads, and depending upon the age of your students they may start looking for blank pins.

It's only a tiny thing and probably me just over thinking it, great work and i'm sure it will go really well :)
