It is not an engineering challenge, but what about a rendering challenge?
A model is selected for everyone to work with. The goal is to render it.
The winner could be the model with the most likes. Or there could be categories for things like "most realistic", or "best scene"...etc.

The engineering challenges are great. Want to lead with that because some of them have really looked like a fun, worthwhile, challenge.

That said, I believe you'd get a lot more participation if you included challenges that weren't heavy time sinks. A person like myself, and there are a lot of us out there, with a wife, kids, older parent to care for, job and other priorities, really has to pick and choose those extra curricular activities carefully.

The sustainable water supply challenge is just such a challenge. It would engage me for hours on end and because of that, I dare not even think on it too much.

What could get more people involved are things like:

• modeling challenges: show multiple views and/or a print, then vote on the best interpretation
• rendering challenges: as Fred mentioned
• most elegant solution challenges: doesn't require inventing the whole thing; just the parts that do a specific function

I might think of more later. :)

Great feedback! We will work on trying to come up with some more GrabCAD challenges that incorporate more rendering and redesign challenges.

I also like the idea of most likes playing into the voting.

In the past there were several page with that kind of challenges, the price were badges in the user profiles.

these type of challenges were represented:

• create a model only out of reference pictures
• rendering challenge
• Speed Modeling challenges
• the there was a challenges with a topic like "future" were everybody can create a render about it (cars, scenes, objects, etc.)

More just related to the functionality of the site in this regard, but I couldn't seem to find the right thread. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see a notification (like a small +1) next to the "challenges" tab on the main page when a new one is posted (and would revert to normal when the page was viewed). I love looking at them to see if they're worth trying but I often forget to check and miss out.

I really like that idea. Right now we are working on email notifications when a new challenge goes live, but I like the idea of a in app experience where you get a little red notification bubble.
