GrabCAD Community User Group

I'm still not clear about what ratio we should use for our CAD models' thumb nail pictures.

Some times I render them and the model gets cropped out on the main page when somebody is looking for a CAD model and they can't see the whole object.

I try to render them with a 4:3 aspect ratio, but still not certain if this is the right one to use.

Lately there has been issues with bot accounts posting things that are inappropriate. Maybe a cooldown between when an account is created and when they can make their first comment/discussion.

Far to much Spam not being dealt with even after days of reporting to staff.

For real man! Its nuts half of my notifs are from bots

The annoying thing about these bots are they are very invasive. They post tutorials, website links in Questions sections, groups, comments on models. sometimes so repulsive that I might not want to come here again. :(

Give Group Moderates more power to delete Threads that are against the rules. What "powers" do they have anyway? are are they just some sort of Figurehead?

This might be the wrong string for this, as it's a feature request and not a concern, but I personally would really like version tracking/Obsoleting as possibilities on models. I know that adds the potential to increase data size, but it would be useful. I have a part that I modeled incorrectly, and while I posted as both a comment and in the details that I fixed it “on this day”, it doesn't change that the wrong file was downloaded by some users. It would be nice to push a version change and possibly send them a (could be turned off in settings) Update notification.

Also, to have the ability to change whether a file is “live” or not would be helpful. When starting out a model, I add it, then publish it, decide I don’t like the views, edit it, save the changes, then want to rearrange the gallery, Rise and repeat. The entire time it’s live on cite. I would rather have it “private”, and then when I’m happy with it, take it live. If you could also take it off being live if you need to make changes.

It might be too much to ask for or ”not in the spirt of the cite”, but the last to thought I have are private models. The ability to have “Only accessed with link” similar to other sharing platforms like G-Drive and YouTube, or “must be a member of [Name] group to View”. It might not be as inclusive, but it could be nice for per reviews before publishing or Group projects like we ran in college.

Again this might not be the right sting, and I might be the only one that would find these features useful, but it is my two cents.

Love the Idea. We have the feature implemented in GrabCAD Workbench. Would be a great Idea to have that apart of GC Community itself. I will look into this.

Far to many new Groups with very little GrabCad relevance!

As a GrabCAD member who is here primarily for the Q&A, it's very annoying how many times I find answers in the Comments, instead of as an Answer. Comments don't get tallied on the index, and (thankfully) I don't get notifications for every comment, so it's difficult to see which Questions have been responded to. And it's time-consuming to open Questions just to see if there are any responses that might be interesting.

Maybe the Question index could include a column for Comments, similar to the column for Answers?

Or maybe the Question page could be modified so its just as easy to enter an Answer as it is a Comment?

Or maybe a little NEW symbol could be displayed in front of any Question that was activity since my last access? Or maybe just BOLD

Questions with activity, similar to Group Discussions?
