As per the new Terms of use to be implemented on 11th April 2019, can someone break it down in a non legal language.


1/ In general it appears to be a non liability agreement to protect GRABCAD/STRATASYS from account holders that infringe upon proprietary data.


2/ Section 7 : CUSTOMER DATA & STORAGE ; seems to state that the customer maintains data ownership but licenses STRATASYS and it's affiliates to use of that data as they see fit in perpetuity. Thus also the sublicensing the data which I assume this to mean by GRABCAD to the other GRABCAD accounts as per downloads of models but not giving rights to the download account for further distribution.


3/ Is this agreement set up to protect account data from other accounts whom use such for an unauthorised use & personal gain (plagiarism & commercial ventures)? Thus a means to shut down errant accounts that abuse the site for their own personal gain?


4/ In general I would like to confirm what rights the account holders maintain. Unfortunately I was away sick on the day they taught LEGALESE at school.

Kesa , Abe or other GRABCAD Staff are you able to respond to this enquiry? I would hate to leave GRABCAD because of this confusion.

I have not read them fully, but I got the impression that the new terms apply to Software (i.e. GrabCAD Print, and GrabCAD Workbench). The terms of use for the site remain unchanged.

Not that reading the terms fully would help me understand them any better :)

Quick update:


I asked those more knowledgable in Stratasys about the terms change to give a non-legalese TL,DR.


Unfortunately I cannot comment on this issue on GrabCAD's/Stratasys's behalf, but I am here right now to let you know that we are aware of this discussion here and will do our best to give you a satisfactory response.

It is just a once bitten twice shy situation when it comes to legal contracts. A lot of the members of GRABCAD would like to display their works with pride but not giving up their rights to legal ownership or relinquishing control of how they are used. Unfortunately you have a lot of non contributing members that have been abusing the site for personal gain. It is hoped the terms of use has been aligned with control of errant accounts. I was hoping to submit my models of a 1900 horse drawn hearse along with a modern vision of a motorcycle hearse but this has personal commercial ventures in mind

So from what ive learned here at the office, these changes better define rights around handling of Customer Data and bring the terms in line with our current business model, which includes offering of fee-based subscription software. The TOU modifications will have no impact on GrabCAD’s ability to control “errant accounts"
