Right now, the tutorials' section is flooded with some literally useless tutorials...
Take this for an example; although it's useless, it still is a tutorial.
This loophole is what made useful tutorials a rare thing. It also made those who seek the Tutorial Master 5 badge upload similar tutorials and some of them even post the same tutorial more than once but in a different software. Others may upload a single tutorial in multiple parts just to increase the no. of tutorials they have and get a higher badge level.
It also made the no. of CAD exercise tutorials increase tremendously, even if they are useless.
I was thinking about adding a new condition, so that tutorials must add sth. new.
I know this is an extremely general condition but it still makes the accepted tutorials useful (in case it was applied).
Do you have any ideas?
I made a similar post some months ago when badge requirements changed from the vague "you'll get this tutorial badge when you upload quality tutorials" to "you'll automatically get this badge when you press the upload button n times".
The tutorial you used as an example actually isn't bad. I know there are 100's of other "how to revolve" tutorials. But this one has decent pictures, and is well written. Notice it has 0 likes and nine views, we'll get to those in a moment.
I get why the badge system is being revamped, but the new system rewards garbage. I've reported spam accounts that have a handful of badges. GrabCAD is literally giving badges out for a "tutorial" or "question" that is just spam for an online poker site, or some other junk. Already reported, but here's an example.
No doubt any solution also contains unknown problems. One that comes to mind is a peer review system. Split GrabCAD into two sections (a bit like Imgur.com). Everything is uploaded as it is now, but until it receives enough upvotes, or likes, it does not make it to the "main site". Instead it dies in the submission area.
The Tutorial section already works a bit like that if the Most Liked filter is used. Let's extend that to Questions as well (assuming the Question section will remain).
I do think it is rare for members to abuse the new badge system just to get a "level 5 badge". But that may be because the new badges are not "worth as much" when they are given out for pressing the upload button.
My favorite badge is Render Bender. It took me months to render 100 models in the Library. I also learned to render better, and maybe made a few people happy to have a better image of their model.
Regarding badge improvements, let's consider trading the "you get a badge for pressing this button" system. To a "you get a badge because your tutorial had the most likes this month".
If one is just starting out on their quest to assimilate SolidWorks then this may be an informative tutorial. It may be RUDE(i)mentary to some, but we all had to start somewhere.
But when every new member starts his own SW beginner tutorials teaching others how to draw a line and arc, it gets out of control...
Encourage the learners. If you can not, simply say nothing and move on.
I believe you mean this tutorial (your link is broken)...
Yes, I do believe it is better. If you know why I made it (which I've already mentioned in the tutorial's description), you'll know why it is helpful.
I - myself - don't hunt badges, but those who do are ready to upload spam just to get some badges, and that's what bothers me.
I don't understand why it is bothering you if they get badges if you are not after badges. If somebody uploads spam, you can report it and, done with it. The model/tutorial will be removed, end of the story. Why do you need to open a new thread for this, only to fill the other people's email inbox? I get a new email every time when somebody upload/comment on the website because I want to know when something new or helpful is coming up.
If your read my words carefully, you'll find this: "Take this for an example; although it's useless, it still is a tutorial. This loophole is what made useful tutorials a rare thing"...
These tutorials are considered "OK" and "Not Spam" which means that they can't be reported. But, they aren't any useful and just flood the tutorials' section with repeated tutorials.
If you don't want to get notifications about this discussion, just "Unfollow" the discussion...
I'm not a hypocrite; making a tutorial for such a trivial thing doesn't differ from what I'm suggesting to be removed in this very discussion...
Just click on the green "Following" Button on the top-right corner and you'll unfollow the discussion.
Differences that makes Yahya's tutorial better:
Nobody "needs" badges, but they are a feature of this website to award participation, and/or modify behavior.
It is odd that you have no badges, one should be awarded for uploading a library model.
First, I want to apologize if I did/said something wrong. We'll not happen again.
Second, I don't need badges. I want to help if it is possible.
Unfortunately, my time doesn't allow me to create models/tutorials as I wish. Also, my job will not allow me to share the tutorials that I made/have. But, I try to answer and help when I can. Most of the questions I receive them by email.
The reason that I replay to this topic was, it doesn't matter if a tutorial is not top-notch, somebody spent the time to make and, possibly somebody will need it.
In my personal opinion, better to have double the information than not have it.
In an effort to encourage quality tutorials, we'll be starting to feature some of our favorites on the GrabCAD Blog: https://blog.grabcad.com/blog/2020/06/15/grabcad-tutorials-we-love-june/
If anyone sees quality tutorials that you think deserve recognition, please share it with me or Kesa!
Thank you,

Maybe you'd like to avoid the appearance of featuring your own tutorials, but GrabCAD staff member Shuvom Ghose has some great content: https://grabcad.com/shuvom.ghose/tutorials
No doubt the badge revamping process is on hold or delayed for Covid-19. But badges can tie in with the promotion and submission of higher quality tutorials. I may have mentioned this idea previously, but award a badge to the most liked tutorial in a month. I believe such a badge could still be automated, and it rewards the member that created a tutorial enjoyed by the community.
The month is still young, but Praveen Kumar holds half of the top 15 tutorials for this month.
GrabCAD tutorials that are a link to silent YouTube videos are not my favorite style, but other members seem to enjoy them.
Hello everyone.
I have been looking into the Quality of Tutorials lately and I do feel the same as you. Some of the Tutorials that are silent videos or some are just self promotion of some business or website doesn't really help the community.
We have an idea for the badge revamp that will award people for quality made tutorials but its still in the development phase. If you have an idea what kind of parameters we should look into to make sure the tutorial sections shows quality tutorials please let me know.
Best
Kesa
thats my two and 1/2 cents...
