Hello Kesa,
When you say the "Questions section of the Community"
Does this apply to all of the question sections in all of the groups ?
Regards Xgentec Jason
This badge does not take into account questions posted before today? I have to believe more than 3 members qualify for this badge right from the start. <EDIT: It looks like old questions qualify, it just gets triggered by asking a new question. I just qualified for a level 3 badge for asking a question>
Just my opinion, but I'd have made the requirements for this badge be the number of accepted answers received. That places the incentive on providing a quality answer. Instead the focus is on the quantity of questions asked. Which does GrabCAD want to promote? Bad questions; or, good answers?
Time to go ask some bad questions... :)
Jason,
I have no insight into how the badge works behind the scenes, but this is from the badge description: "The Title of Question Master is given to GrabCAD Members who ask a question to the GrabCAD Community in Groups and in the Questions."
Clearly there is a typo with the "in the Questions". I think it is safe to assume it was meant to say "in the Questions section", or "in Questions". Either implies that questions posed in both Groups, and Questions count toward the progress.
But, I have doubts. I've posted many questions in the Question section, and only a few in the Groups area. I triggered the level 3 badge this evening (10 questions). I believe if the Question section were added to the tally, the count would be much higher. Maybe there is a time limit? Only questions posted in X months are counted? I don't ask many questions here, but they do add up over the years.
Hello Fred,
I got my answer last night when posting a question in the electronics group. The question activated a badge so it does apply to all groups.
I have been running the electrical engineering group since the first release of groups in beta so I agree with you it is deeply frustrating this only applies to new posts. It is not the first time I have been frustrated with the badge system and I am guessing it will not be the last.
I would have thought I would have easily qualified for the community leader badge by now running a group for as long as I have. I may be lucky get one in my next life if things keep going the way they are.
Good to hear from you again Fred regards Jason
Hello Again Fred,
I just checked through some community leader badge holders.
Most have insider badges.
I was shocked at this one though !
Community leader badge for 8 Models uploaded and has left a vast 6 comments to other users ???
https://grabcad.com/ryan.paetzold--1
I am starting to get greatly disheartened with this platform especially keeping the electrical engineering group going for as long as I have and uploading large models with large part counts that take hundreds of hours to design while other people upload non-editable step or part files or nothing more than jpg files.
I agree with Fred...
Asking questions isn't what we should promote, while answering them correctly should.
We may end up with tons of spam questions (apart from those we already have) just to get such badges.
If this badge promotes asking questions, then another badge promoting answering questions is what we need...
Hey FredSWUG,
We will be adding badges for people who have asked questions in the past. Similar to how we did with the Upload Master Badge.
Also, to your point about rewarding answering questions. We plan on developing a badge for answering questions as well. So be on the lookout for that!
Love all the feedback from you guys!
Best,
Abe
It's hard to say why some badges are awarded. That user may have been active in the past. They may have deleted many of their models, and now only have eight?
I think the Insider badge is obsolete. I've heard different stories about it's appearance, and possible disappearance. Ultimately, it is a decal, based on fake Internet points, there will be no impact on your health, or wealth based on a badge. I figured I would have triggered the Insider badge for beta testing the Group Discussions, but I don't loose sleep over it :)
The badge system has been under construction for a while now, and no badges that require manual activation are being awarded. Automated badges still work. But Community Leader is one of those that requires manual activation.
I don't know of any specific requirements to get the badge, but no doubt you'll receive one when you least expect it.
Hello again Fred,
It just occurred to me after seeing a staff member response in your upload master badge question that this makes no sense at all.
According to staff member in your upload master badge question if an engineer deletes all of his models the badges still remain on the account !!!
In this case it is clear that this engineer only has an upload master two badge (Above 5 models) and only has left 6 comments. It is highly unlikely an engineer would go through every comment he has ever made and delete them just because he has had enough of the platform.

Not all high-scored users leave comments...
I always assumed the Comment statistic only incremented upwards, but it turns out it also goes backwards if a comment is deleted. Now I'm curious if the count decreases if a model with several comments posted is deleted.
It does seem unlikely that anyone would look for and delete comments they left. I doubt I'd find a fraction of the comments I've left if there was some desire to delete them.
Yahya's explanation of having never left many comments to begin with makes the most sense.
