I was working on a project recently and wanted to generate a rendering that looked more like a concept drawing, than a realistic rendering.

I found the image below online as a reference for what I am looking to try and recreate. Is Photoshop or Illustrator normally used for these types of colored sketches?:

I think the goal is termed "non-photo realistic rendering". I find people sometimes focus on the appearance too much when a photo realistic rendering is presented. Instead I want them to focus more on the shape, and in this case the color scheme.
I know Keyshot does Toon Shading, but toon shading is a little too sparse. I would like to make the shadows in the image more like the Shaded Toon shadows though.
