how can i make any feature on cylinder as it is not possible to select cylidrical surface..i am using catia v5

I think you should try point command or offset plane

Make use of offset planes. OR if you intended to do some complex features on cylinder, use GSD workbench...

use WORKING SUPPORTS and choose a cylinder (or any surface) to be the support.
