Best way? Go work for a company that builds & designs tooling. Your engineering knowledge and more importantly, eagerness to learn should get you in the door. Then spend a lot of time with the folks that maintain the tooling. They can tell you what issues they see. If the company maintains a library of failure reports (FEA), those will also prove very helpful.
Having a good fundamental knowledge is important but most of what you need, you will gain on the job.
