Create a cutout (around the operning) in the operning part of your enclosure(where you intend to cover it up with the plate) and the plate covering the enclosure should of the same thickness the cutout is. Also make a cutout of depth of around 1-2mm in the covering plate(around the outer edge), look for environmental protection gaskets of the same thickness, usually o-rings to sit in the cutout. The gasket with a compression force will not allow dust/water to enter.
