I'm a beginner in 3D Modelling. Can anyone suggest basic software to design 3D Models for Biomimicry?

I tried Imagine and Design in CATIA V5 but it seems pretty difficult, I am not able to add thickness to my structures.

If possible please suggest how to add thickness in this case, model attached
