Add configuration feature

In this tutorial i'll show you how to model different tire configurations with the same tire tread. I apologize because it's my very first tutorial and forgive any mistake or missunderstatments.
Because of my interesting about scale models, i take the decision to model and 3d print a wender wracker truck for my collection from level zero. So i decide to model and 3d print the wheels too. I believe that this tutorial isn't something new or supprising, but i believe that someday for someone could be useful.
Thank you for your time.

  1. Step 1: Intro

    Greetings to all comunity.

Recently I work on a 1/87 model scale wheels project for a Weidner Wracker truck. At the rear axles there were dual wheels system, with different configuration each other. So, I had to model for 2 rear axles 4 wheels. I found a way how to model two different wheels whith the same wheel toe, and I want to share it with you.

  2. Step 2: Basic Modelling

Firstly I choose the plane to start with, and draw a circle to the dimensions I prefer and boss extrude in order to give her volume. In tutorial I use the dimensions below.

  3. Step 3: Shaping the Wheel

Continue with the inner hole and the fillets in order to shaping the wheel and add some detail. Let's name her  Tyre 1 configuration.

  4. Step 4: Add Configuration

Right click In the configuration manager and Add configuration. Set configuration name as Tyre 2 (or whatever you want), and continue to built the configuration of the other wheel (tyre2).

  5. Step 5: Modeling the wheel tread

Let’s go design the wheel tread. Assume that it has simple grooves. So the result may be like this. Let's design a circle and cut - revolve feature in order from the groove to be done.

  6. Step 6: Finishing the project

Now I want this modification to exist in the two configurations.

In the future manager design tree, I choose the cut extrude and Lpattern features. (the two basic features for the thread modelling), right click uppon them and choose configure feature. Unclick the options in order not to suppress them in the default (tyre 1) configuration and voila.
