Deforming surface with curves in SOLIDWORKS

Tutorial about Deform feature and its usage with surfaces.

  1. Step 1:

This time I will show you Deform feature and I will show you an example of deforming this surface body on the picture by using some curves.

This is one random surface I drew and now I will make a sketch down its length in the middle on Front Plane.

  2. Step 2:

Here is the sketch I need and now I am going to finish this sketch.

  3. Step 3:

I started a new sketch again on the Front Plane and I drew another sketch and the shape of this sketch will determine the shape of this surface body by using a Deform tool.

You do not need to draw two separate sketches, these two can be one.

  4. Step 4:

You can find Deform feature in Insert-->Features-->Deform.

You can always type it on command search.

  5. Step 5:

Here we go, Deform tool is activated and we have got a few things we need to select.

We have the window called Deform Curves and here we need to select our curves.

If you select the first horizontal line in blue box and the spline in red box the surface will be pushed down and it will form a shape this spline represents. My selection is the opposite, the blue box is the spline and the red box is the horizontal line so the surface goes upwards.

You also need to select the surface you want to be deformed in the box shown on the picture.

In the last box you can control the shape.

  6. Step 6:

    This is what we get.

    :)
