GrabCAD Print Now Supports KeyShot 3MF Files

KeyShot 3D rendering software from Luxion Inc seamlessly integrates with GrabCAD Print for a smooth and quick export of 3MF files. This improved workflow enables designers to streamline their color workflow by exporting 3MF files that maintain color and texture data

  1. Step 1: Overview

KeyShot 3D rendering software from Luxion Inc seamlessly integrates with GrabCAD Print for a smooth and quick export of 3MF files. Integrating CMF (Color Material Finish) models earlier in the product design process enable designers to make better and more accurate design decisions, increase design quality, and shorten time to market.

In this demonstration, we show you how this improved workflow enables designers to streamline their color workflow by exporting 3MF files that maintain color and texture data.

  2. Step 2: Import your CAD file to KeyShot

In KeyShot, simply import your part from your respective CAD software then KeyShot can determine the bodies within your assembly. From there it is as simple as selecting your color or material from the materials menu like this wood texture, then dragging it onto your part.

  3. Step 3: Design your model

KeyShot much like GrabCAD print accepts many standard color formats like rgb, hsv, and even Pantone which gives you great control over color selection.

You can also select and apply multiple materials to your assembly and customize it in the same manner. Whether it be a wood, glossy plastic, or even a standard surface-finish such as moldtech, KeyShot along with GrabCAD Print can capture the texture detail while maintaining the color accuracy you need -- all while saving you time in modeling and other design iterations.

  4. Step 4: Export your part & open in GrabCAD Print

The real magic is that all you need to do after customizing your part, is to go to file and select export to 3mf.

When you open your newly created 3mf file from KeyShot into GrabCAD Print, your part will retain the same color, the materials assigned, along with the knowledge that your part is a multi-bodied assembly.

Achieve the color, material, and textures desired by designers to create the high-fidelity models you want using KeyShot and GrabCAD Print.

  5. Step 5: 3D print your part!

Before 3D printing your part, change the orientation to maximize the print quality, reduce printing time, and to reduce the overall support material usage. You can also change the finish directly in GrabCAD Print as a last minute task -- which is a huge help for designers!
