How to change origin of view in Catia drafting?

How to change origin of view in Catia drafting?

It will show you how to change origin and axis lines in drawing.

  1. Step 1:

    Create a rectangular prism. 200x120x20mm.

  2. Step 2:

Create points with sketch on the surface of the prism to mark the holes positions.

  3. Step 3:

Create first hole (you can create it with hole command easly) will hwith one of the marked positions.

  4. Step 4:

And make user pattern for hole repetitions.

  5. Step 5:

Create new axis systems on the first point of which holes created.

Not required, it is up to you. I just create it on the same for tutorial. It does not have to be on same point. And also you can create more than one axis systems to show different measures or hole/coordinate tables in different views.

  6. Step 6:

    Our part data is ready.

  7. Step 7:

Create a new drafting. Create a Front View.

  8. Step 8:

Select the upper surface of part.

  9. Step 9:

And you will have this view. Please note the 2D axis system. It's right in the middle of the piece (Absolute axis system or default).

  10. Step 10:

Rerun the Front View command. When you come the part screen, first select axis system from specification tree which we are already created in step 5 and then select upper surface of part.

  11. Step 11:

Check the 2D axis system of new Front View. It moved. It's not right in the middle of the piece anymore.

  12. Step 12:

Go Properties of first Front View and activate 3D Points with x symbols.

Repeat this step for second Front View.

  13. Step 13:

Now you can see points of holes.

  14. Step 14:

Activate first Front View and select all points with holding CTRL. In this tutorial we have 7 points. Start selecting from first hole's point. Select them by in order. Then go Dimensions toolbar and run the "Coordinate Dimension Table".

  15. Step 15:

If you click OK directly, coordinate dimensions table will be created. Click OK. We will see difference on the next steps.

  16. Step 16:

Table created. If you check the X and Y values, they are according to absolute axis system or default axis system.

  17. Step 17:

Make undo or delete table and marking letters from view. Reselect the 7 points by holding CTRL and rerun the "Coordinate Dimension Table". This time change the axis system from list. I have select my axis system. Click OK and table will created.

  18. Step 18:

Table created. If you check the X and Y values, they are according to new axis system. We created axis system on the first hole, so we are seeing the coordinates values of first hole are X=0 and Y=0.

  19. Step 19:

Repeat the steps from 14 to 18 for second Front View. You will see same table results for both 2D reference axis system and our new axis system. Select 2D reference axis system.

  20. Step 20:

Table created. And values of first hole are X=0 and Y=0.

  21. Step 21:

Rerun the "Coordinate Dimension Table" by selecting new axis system.

  22. Step 22:

Table created. And values of first hole are X=0 and Y=0.

  23. Step 23:

    Final. Comparision.

You can use both view creation for your drawings.

I just want to remind you. When you create the Front View, 2D axis is formed into the view. You can not change it later by creating a new axis system in the 3D part. Because view is already created. So you have to create new view.
