How to trim surface in SOLIDWORKS?

This time I am going to show you how to trim a surface in SOLIDWORKS.

  1. Step 1:

To trim a surface you must have a surface , we can not trim solid model. You probably know about trim when you draw sketches and you just trim the lines you do not need.

With surfaces it is a little bit different.

I created a surface like you can see on the picture and I am gonna use it for demonstration.

  2. Step 2:

Now, I m going to use to use Top Plane which is "Parallel" with my surface to draw a sketch which we need to execute the trim surface command.

If you are not familiar with the surfaces just be aware that there are much more complicated surfaces than this and that you need to learn more about it.

    Lets make that sketch finally.

  3. Step 3:

I drew something like this, two concentric circles whose center is on the middle of the surface. The bigger circle is tangent to the edges.

  4. Step 4:

Select the Trim Surface command.Under the Trim tool select the sketch.Select Remove selections and choose all the purple parts of my surface (they become purple when you select them).Click ok.

  5. Step 5:

    This is what we got.

  6. Step 6:

If I return and select Keep selections the result will be the same because I selected the surface between two circles.

  7. Step 7:

You can add thickness to it.

I hope understand how this works, try to practice a little bit and you will get it :)
