NX 10 Sketch Rectangle (Creating a Rectangle Using 'By 2 Points') Lesson 1.0

There are three methods of creating a rectangle:

By 2 Points
By 3 Points
By Center

The first method is similar to the Rectangle command outside of the Sketch task environment, creating lines parallel to the X- and Y axes of the Sketch coordinate system. The other two methods allow you to create lines that are not parallel the sketch axes. Regardless of the method used, the lines created are perpendicular to each other.

  1. Step 1:

Select File tab > New to create a new part file with units of Millimeters.

  2. Step 2:

Select Curve tab > Sketch in Task Environment to display the Create Sketch dialog.

  3. Step 3:

In the Sketch Type pane set the Sketch Type drop-down to On Plane.

  4. Step 4:

In the Graphics window select the YZ plane as indicated.

  5. Step 5:

Click OK to enter Sketch task environment, viewing the YZ plane.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6:

Ensure Continuous Auto Dimensioning is inactive by selecting Home tab > Constraints group > Display Sketch Constraints (drop down menu) > Continuous Auto Dimensioning if it is active. For this Process we will leave the Create Inferred Constraints feature active.
The box around it's icon will disappear disabling the feature. Doing this allows you to control where the dimensions are to be placed and doesn't clutter the sketch with several dimensions. You can choose to leave it active but there will be dimension automatically created for every line you create, which you can later delete.

  7. Step 7:

Select Home tab > Curve group > Rectangle to display the Rectangle dialog.

  8. Step 8:

Click in the Graphics window to define the first point of the rectangle.

  9. Step 9:

Enter 10000 in the Width box, press TAB, enter 7500 in the Height box and press ENTER to create the rectangle.

  10. Step 10:

You can also drag the cursor to define the values and click to place the rectangle.
