Revolve feature in AutoCAD

A presentation of Revolve feature in AutoCAD.

  1. Step 1:

Now I m going to show you Revolve feature in AtuoCAD.This tool can be a little tricky for beginners.

What Revolve does is that it rotates you 2D contour into 3D shape around axis (line in the center) for a specific angle you set.

On the picture I have some random drawing formed with lines and splines. Now before doing Revolve you need to join your lines into one single piece (watch my tutorial about that if you do not now how to do it).

When your lines are separated after Revolve you will get surface object, not filled solid object. It depends if you actually want to get solid.

In this case I wanted to get a solid object so I joined all lines except the line which will be the axis for rotation (red circle on the picture).

  2. Step 2:

Of course you do not need to draw the object like mine, you can draw your own, just follow the steps.

Find Revolve feature on the Home tab and click on it, or you can type REVOLVE.Select your drawing.

  3. Step 3:

Now it asks you to specify your axis, I am gonna select the line this arrow points to.

  4. Step 4:

Now it asks you for the angle, for full revolution around the axis type 360°.

  5. Step 5:

This is it, a nice round object you get with this feature.

It is easier to watch videos for these type of things, I recommend that beside tutorials ;)

This is what i got when I typed 150°, one nice broken bowl ;)
