Swept Surface in SOLIDWORKS

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a swept surface in SOLIDWORKS

  1. Step 1:

Start by creating a zig-zagged sketch using your line tool. For this tutorial, all of the vertical lines were set to 30mm and all of the horizontal lines were set to 100mm. This was done using the “smart dimension” tool that can be found in the top left of your screen.

  2. Step 2:

Once that’s done, right click on the “right plane” view. In the menu that pops up, select “sketch.” Your view should then look like the one pictured below. From here, right click on your sketch. An “orientation” menu will pop up and you will select the “*Normal To” option.

  3. Step 3:

Your sketch will transform to how it’s pictured below. From here, select the rightmost endpoint. Using your circle tool, create a circle surrounding the rightmost endpoint. Set the smart dimensions of this circle to 10mm.

  4. Step 4:

From there, access your surfaces toolbox. To do this, right click on the toolbar at the top of your screen. A menu will drop down (pictured below). Select “Surfaces” and the surfaces toolbox will then appear on the left hand side of your screen. From this toolbox, select the “swept” button.

  5. Step 5:

Once you have clicked the “swept” tool, a box like the one pictured below will appear on the left hand of your screen. The Profile (Sketch2) is the circle that you just created.

  6. Step 6:

To select the Path, click on the blue highlighted box. From the menu that is pictured below (you may have to move your surfaces toolbox to uncover this menu), select “Sketch1.” The Path will then be created.

  7. Step 7:

    Your sketch should automatically transform.
