Tutorial - How to model a water glass in Solidworks?

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

  1. Step 1:

    Boss-Extrude a circle on the top plane(mine is with 55 mm diameter);

  2. Step 2:

    Cut-extrude the inside of the part (used a 6mm smaller circle than the extruded one in step 1);

  3. Step 3:

    Sketch an equation driven curve (parametric) with Xt=(55-6)*pi/4*t and Yt=5*sin(2*pi*t), where t1 is 0, t2 is 4 - I used this equation to make a sine wave with 4 periods and the length of the curve is the circumference of the inner circle (pi*49 in my case);

  4. Step 4:

    Wrap the sine wave sketch on the inner face of the glass;

  5. Step 5:

    Repeat steps 3 and 4 few times to make the other sine waves;

  6. Step 6:

    Make a 3D sketch of each two sine waves and after that boundary surface them;

  7. Step 7:

    Thicken all of the boundary surfaces with different thickness starting with the thickest from the bottom of the glass (on the real life glass it feels like small steps);

    PS see the yellow area on the right for better understanding.

  8. Step 8:

    Fillet the edges as you like and voila - the glass is ready.
    It should look like this (after rendering).
