Tutorial: Torus Möbius

Here are the steps I did to make this model.

Start by opening a new sketch. I made my part in mm,

As the name suggests, this shape is just a torus cut in half with a möbius (still a single solid body)

It can be helpful to rename your sketches and features to make them easier to select down the line. If you do not know how to do this look here;

  1. Step 1:

Start a new sketch on the top plane.

  2. Step 2:

This first sketch will be the path for the torus. Make the center coincident to the origin with a diameter of 100mm,

    Exit this sketch.

I called this sketch "Path Circle"

  3. Step 3:

Open a new sketch on the right plane.

  4. Step 4:

Now create the profile for the torus.

Make a circle with a diameter of 50mm and pierce the center to the "Path Circle."
    Exit this sketch.

I called this sketch "Torus Profile"

  5. Step 5:

In a new sketch on the top plane create an arc. This arc needs to be collinear to the "Path Circle" and the end points should be vertical to the origin. This arc is the left half of the circle.
    exit this sketch

I called this sketch "Left half"

  6. Step 6:

create a new sketch on the top plane and again create an arc the same a the previous step but this time for the right half of the circle.
    exit this sketch.

I called this sketch "Right half"

  7. Step 7:

Create a sketch on the right plane and make a "Center Rectangle" with the center pierced to the "Path Circle", one of the vertical lines tangent to the "Torus Profile" with a height of 20mm.
    Exit this sketch.

I called this sketch "Mobius profile"

  8. Step 8:

Using the Sweep Boss/Base feature, create the torus by selecting the "Torus profile " and "Path circle" sketches.
    Accept using green check.

  9. Step 9:

Here is our torus that we now need to cut with a mobius.

  10. Step 10:

Use the cut sweep feature and select the "Mobius profile" and "Left half" sketches. Now under options choose "Twist Along Path" and set the angel to 90deg.
Click the green check to accept.

  11. Step 11:

This cut will create a number of solid bodies that we do not want. A message box will appear and ask what bodies we would like to keep. choose the Selected bodies option and click on the top body. The portion of the torus that we want to keep should turn blue. Click OK.

  12. Step 12:

Now repeat step 10 but choose the right half sketch for the path and click the button with the circular arrows on it to the left of the degrees. This changes the direction of the twist.

  13. Step 13:

    Repeat step 11.

  14. Step 14:

Add a fillet of 5mm to the two edges.

  15. Step 15:

And now we have a cool Torus Mobius.
