I used a 3D sketch as my path (from a projected interaction curve) and then a sweep to remove material. last step is to pattern the sweep. This workflow will work on 2019

Is your picture and STL the result of what you have done or is that what you are trying to achieve? In other words, is the lumpy/bumpy surface how you want the finished result?

This is done with Inventor 2019, I believe 2020 with it's ability to sweep a solid would come closer. (I don't have 2020 installed.)

[edit] Trying to do this part in its entirety with a single sweep feature would be complicated and problematic. Start with a simple revolution and then a sweep for just one of the flutes. Then pattern it 5 times. It's best (but not mandatory) if all all sketches in a sweep have the same quantity and type of segments. Otherwise Inventor will have a difficult time with a smooth transition between sketches. This is why I suggest doing a sweep for just a single flute. Keep each feature and it's constituent sketches as simple as possible.

I finally figured out what this thing is. He was trying to reverse engineer a questionable water treatment device.

it’s a “fractal vortex superimploder water nozzle”. It’s supposed to align the magnetic domains in the water molecules as they pass through. Or something like that is claimed.
