Companies usually drop products because of lack of sales. Sometimes they can't produce a design at a competitive price to alternatives.

A question that you would have to ask ST Micro about. But likely poor sales or too many flavors that STM had and they wanted to narrow their Cortex M3 line.

Also the Cortex M4 and M7 have come out and they likely had to drop lines for newer MCUs.

This is a business decision, but not likely an engineering one.

Not a big deal though. Just take the old design files, find another Cortex M3 series part and recompile for that target. Also it does NOT need to be an STM part. You may want to go to NXP (which also owns Freescale now).

Other Cortex M3 parts are available from other silicon vendors and C is (mostly) transportable but you will need to remap the pins and functions.

Hello again Steven, I actually did contact the guy who designed the maple mini quite some time ago and asked him why it was scrapped however he simply would not give any direct answers at all. He kept changing the subject on every return email, It was really frustrating.

I have checked out Mbed and Kiel. In the end I decided on Kiel as it is an offline compiler. However I do find it very difficult to find the extra study time on top of my normal study subjects. As you have mentioned It is a lifetime constant learning experience and the game is always changing.

Hello, as for me, maple mini turned out to be excellent microcontrollers of its kind. It's hard for me to find them in my region, I don't want to use Chinese microcontrollers. I am looking for something for my equipment, I am a geodesist. The Maple and Maple mini follow on were Arduino boards that are just following the evolutionary trail of the ARM Cortex series and of the product lines that ST Micro wants to sell based upon volume of devices.
