Self promotion on GrabCAD has been getting worse lately. Is it just me that gets annoyed by it? I figured we could discuss it for a bit and see if anyone agrees, or maybe you'll convince me it is a great idea.


What is self promotion? It's creating content on GrabCAD, and/or another platform (i.e. YouTube), then posting about everywhere on GrabCAD.

I don't want to call out a few members that have been doing it a lot recently, let's just say that after their content is uploaded they post links in the Questions section and several Groups at the same time. There usually isn't a question associated with the post. And the Groups selected are often unrelated to the content.


I get why the posts are created. I'm "guilty" of answering questions by pointing someone to a Tutorial I posted. But there is a context and reason for directing them there. I don't post a new tutorial, then tell half a dozen Groups about the tutorial being uploaded.


What are your thoughts on self promotion posts. Do you like them? Hate them? Do you create them? Report them?

First of all, I always report them...

Why? Simply because GrabCAD isn't a portfolio you can over-flood with your models, tutorials, etc.


It does allow you to share your work as long as you do that correctly.

What is considered correct? I believe that assigning a separate place for posting models/tutorials is the most correct way.


I don't go to a group and start a discussion about how amazing my models/tutorials are because that isn't the place to do so.


As for linking others to my models/tutorials, I believe it's acceptable as long as they are within the context of the question, discussion, etc.

In my opinion, the groups are for sharing information. So if you have 3D-printed something and you want to showcase it, sure. If you learned something that can help other people, also sure. But yes, there are now more and more people that are spamming all the groups about things that doesn't even matter with that groups.


I think that a good rule should be that or it should be a personal thing you want to showcase or it should add value to me.
