SOLIDWORKS Design & Help

Created by Angel Ramirez on 9 March, 2018

So, I am starting a new contract with a company and they want me to draft layouts of equipment in the field. It sounds like it will be the same equipment used over and over, but different configurations based on client/location.

I'm thinking that I can model the "equipment" and the insert it into the field with a macro-form-popup-menu thing that could be something like: Pick "Equipment", Insert it at: "X Coordinate", "Y Coordinate". Then use the insert component, distance mate to Right and Front planes, with a coincident to Top.

It would also be helpful to add in basic orientation Like "Equipment facing" then choose "North" and have the alignment switch based on these selections.

The final end goal would be to get the field supervisor to fill out a requisition form, email it to me. Me Import that form into solidworks, and the starting assembly auto building with the list of equipment, in the right spot, facing the right directions. Then I could get to the finicky work of designing the connections and infrastructure.

Sorry this is a lot of dump... but Thoughts? Would this (on a vague scale) be doable? Does anyone have suggestions for tutorials that could be recommend for inspiration?

There are some assumptions that will be helpful. All "Equipment" is standard, Only cardinal directions will be used, dimensions under 4 inches will be negligible, and the field will be assumed to be "flat".

Cheers,

Tom
