Books suggestion for learning design intent

Hi everyone

As I advance my design skills I would like to gauge a deeper understanding of design intent. Can anyone give me any book suggestions?

Appreciate any help

Understanding design intent? As the designer, you know what the intent is. The difficulty is in conveying that intent to others and for that, there are standards which unify (somewhat) the language.

Take a feature for instance; a 200 mm hole, in which a pattern of holes is constructed around it; 4 in all.

Now you need to tell manufacturing:

How deep the hole is, its position and form requirements. Possibly, its surface finish requirements and how this pattern of holes is arranged about it. The somewhat 'universal' language for this is Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and in that, there are various standards.

"I want it pretty straight and with a nice surface finish" is totally subjective. The only way to narrow everything down is to learn the language. That's where I'd start.

Good luck.
