can anyone explain me what is Body In White(BIW)?

i need to know in CATIA module

Body in white is the structure of car under the visible surfaces. Many parts are assembled with different methods lilke spot welding, Clinching or solder.

BIW is termed before painting & before moving parts , the motor, chassis sub-assemblies, or trim have been assembled in the frame structure.

In catia v5 these tools found in generative shape design as "BIW Templates"
