Help me to decide standard for pipe and pipe fittings.

Hello, I am planning my project to make with the help of PVC pipe. My plan is attached (simple schematic). These are the components I want to use. So please help me to decide standard pipe fittings for those parts. I would recommend to give standard value, that would be easy for me to buy from hardware stores. If possible please try to give values in Indian standards.

1. One way valve setup: As per one way valve, I have diameter 26 mm ball which needs to be placed at the inner portion of Male slip adapter as shown on this video https://youtu.be/DG6own141z0?t=89. Since I have rubber ball I don't need O-ring. So I need male slip adapter standard that fit's this application.

2. Coupling: Coupling may be used to connect Male slip adapter and pipe (acts as pump). Or is it possible to attach pipe with tee pipe.

3. Pipe as pump casing: I decided to use pipe for pumping action. So I need to connect ball valve with coupling on either side or if possible to attach with tee, it's okay. Diameter of pipe can be any standard.

4. Concentric reducer: I plan to use this reducer which connects outlet of one way valve (on right portion from image) with this reducer so as to increase velocity that ease in filtering. For reducer I can make calculation after deciding the values.

5. Coupling: Coupling has to connected with reducer and other pipe which will act as casing for placing spun filter. If this is not possible please suggest a better idea.

6. Filter Casing: Pipe for this casing should have inner diameter of above 5.5 cm. Since I have already bought the one.

7. Outlet pipe: Outlet pipe has to emerge from filter casing.

8. Inlet pipe setup: Suggest a way to connect the male slip adapter's inlet to any pipe which will be used to connect to source tank.

9. Pipe as plunger: For pumping suggest me pipe that would match and will have close clearance with pipe for pump (point 3).

10. O-ring: To make the pump air tight.

11. Tee pipe: This pipe is connected above the plunger pipe so as to pump easily.

Apart from this, any possible way can be suggested. I would be so happy if you respond and give dimension within short course of time.

Dear Ananth Narayan,

The following are the ASTM Standards for PVC piping which are universal and used in India as well as Europe and North America. They are employed by most manufacturers and will guide you in your selections.

https://www.astm.org/Standards/plastic-pipe-standards.html

Not knowing your pressure or flow rate I can only assume that it is a low flow, low pressure situation and therefore schedule 40 pipe is standard. Again please refer to the standards above for any deviation and for definitions of the flow rate tables and calculations for the elasticity of the material and proper yield strength. I am also assuming, since it is PVC piping, that you are planning to glue the piping together (again standard practice) and therefore its not just the pipe material but the strength of bond that is important.

O-rings are generally not used when gluing PVC pipe together and remember that in order to use things like rubber balls for your "one-way" valve setup you need to account for density (gravity) and buoyancy (the rubber will float so your inlet has to come from above to push the ball down and then use the buoyancy of the ball to rise and block the hole again to prevent water from flowing in reverse)…

Beyond this, stick with one set of units ! If you are going to give measurements then give them solely in millimeters or in centimeters or in inches... not a mixture thereof... personally I simply stick with mm.

Hope that helps.
