How can the terms 'non-manifold', 'non-manifold' and connexity be defined in context of CATIA?

The system throws errors when we try to join two overlapping curves or surfaces. Can anyone explain in detail?

Connexity error is occured when two or more surface is not closed.

They can be corrected as by healing the geometry and then joining them.

CATIA does not like overlapping geometry. Before the Join, first trim the curves back to a common end point, and trim the surfaces back to a common edge, so that the joined geometry is continuous and not overlapping.
