how to import step or iges to catia v6?

can't work in catia v6
I do no have knowledge about solidwork, but see if you could find any option to convert or export the file to "igs" format (not "iges") or simply to catia's "prt" format.
Try saving your file by choosing 'save as' option and select "igs" or "prt" format whatever is available in 'file type' field. It should convert it automatically.
In Catia go to:
File > open > (In file type) select "All Files" > Select STEP file > open it.
Catia will automatically convert the file and open it.
