Depending on what program your using it can be slightly different, generally speaking through you need to draw the profile of the cut then finish that sketch and draw a helix 3d sketch for the profile to follow. Programs like Inventor and Solidworks can make this a bit more easier as they only require you to draw the profile then input the diameter, length and spacing. Hope this has helped.
