Solidworks Crashing When Exporting STEP Data

Hi all,
I experienced annoying errors when exporting my design. I work on automotive parts and they have a lot of curvy features. Actually i create fixture design for visual inspection by robots of automotive trim parts. SW is success if working on basic parts but when work on complex part it is ruined everything. Any advice for me?

Hello there,

It sounds like you're facing challenges when exporting your fixture designs, especially for complex automotive parts with curved features. Exporting complex designs can indeed be tricky due to various factors such as geometry, tolerances, and software limitations. Here are some steps and tips that might help you avoid or overcome these errors:

Simplify Geometry: Complex curvy features might cause issues during export. If possible, try to simplify the geometry of your parts without compromising their functionality. This could involve breaking down intricate surfaces into simpler forms or reducing the number of control points https://vermoegenet.de/.

Mesh Quality: The software you're using might employ mesh-based algorithms for visualization or export. Ensuring that your part's mesh quality is high can help prevent errors. Pay attention to mesh density, triangle count, and the presence of any non-manifold edges.

Hello,

I have also experienced Solidworks crashing when Exporting STEP files. I have also noticed that on configurations with less RAM memory this would happen more frequently. I have tested the same assembly on a laptop with 8 GB which crashed and on a laptop with 32 GB which managed to save the STEP file. Both used the same version of SolidWorks.

If SolidWorks is crashing when you try to export to STEP, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
● Reduce the size of the file. If the file is too large, you can try reducing the number of components or features in the file as Mark Oser also stated.
● Upgrade your hardware RAM memory.
