Split Line on Surface Solidworks

So I am trying to use the split line tool to get this line to show on the surface. It is a surface not solid body. However it won't let me as the line doesn't fully cross/intersect the surface. It stops part way accross, see picture. (the selected line is the one I would like to show using split line)

Is there any way around it?

Thanks a lot for any help.

No. A split line must split the surface into one or more surfaces.
But, there are some other options:
1. Create a vertical line which will end up creating an "L" shaped split line. Split lines don't affect the appearance or curvature of a part/surface, so having extra lines is not really an issue.

2. Is really the same as above, but you could extend the first spline you drew past the right edge in that image, then create another vertical split line to define where the spline is now ending in the image.

3. instead of using a split line, try using a projected curve. It won't "split" the surface, instead it will create a 3D curve that lies on the surface.

I guess it all depends on what the desired use of the split line is for.
Splitting would be handy if you are looking to delete model faces. A curve can be handy if planning a sweep, or other operation that requires a path, guide, or boundary selections.
