Dear Friends,
Regarding their product categories, it is not right to put Catia to the same group with Solidworks, Proengineer and Inventor. Only those three except from Catia could be compared.
Catia and others are not in the same product Category.
Catia could be compared with NX if the real product category is being considered!
Regards,
Solidworks
(biased opinion: I could live with about half of the options available, more than this would be wasting resources and money :) )
Well it's being so long i had wished a place where i can discuss these topics!!! GrabCAD made that wish come true..
got to be solidworks, pro engineer or 'creo' as they call it now still looks like it belongs on windows 2000 and the software still behaves like that aswell. not tried inventor or catis
Depends on the areas in question. They are the two best programs out there for creating the majority of what users need IMOP. SolidWorks and Inventor are both mid-range modelors with SolidWorks having a corporate disadvantage and Pro-E and Catia are higher end systems. The poll isn't the place to debate the differences though. Off the top of my head though there are quite a few things Inventor does that SolidWorks doesn't and not much the other way around for different user personas.
Dear Friends,
If we are talking about a CAD Software rating regarding "Industrial Design", I would like to share this video with you. Most of you may already know about it.

Regards,
I say Inventor because I Have Inventor.
I only had a sort trial run with Solidworks.
So the real question is.
Who has tried SW, INV, Pro or CAT and found one to be superior than the other?
Me I like Inventor because that's the one I always use. In the past I noticed that Inventors rendering engine was better than SW.
My nickels worth.
but Why.does it mean Solidworks is better than Catia that we know Catia is really better than solidworks?
It all depends on what they use there CAD software for and most people stick to what they got taught with unless there work uses a different CAD software and they need to learn that. Then it is the price all different factors come in to it but mainly it is what suits that person better that they use the CAD software as they do. If Inventor was cheaper than Solid Works I am sure there would be a lot more users of that software on GrabCAD. A million different factors come into the equation.
Solidworks, I was taught it first and get a free student edition so cant complain about it :P But its also a great program in my opinion, I can make a model, bring it to my school and there we can print it out in 3D, mill it on one of our CNC machines, or cut it out on a waterjet, all without using any other software! (Solidworks provides all data needed to export to the machine code, .stl, .nc, .dxf)
Tough one!! I loved working on Solidworks but I use Inventor everyday doing my current day job................................................I think I'll go with Solidworks!!
Since this isn't a definative study I wouldn't report anything. This only confirms what you use, most users have not tried all four programs so the study is flawed to begin with. This does not take into effect all users of the site either, only about 40 or so users.
Dmitri r u proengineer user?
Tell us more anout this software Plz i really want to know about it and even a contrast between SW and ProE. PLZ

1. SOLIDWORKS ---------- for user friendliness
2. Pro/E or CREO PARAMETRIC ---------- for standard procedure
I have used the 3 of these packages over the last few years and I have found solidworks to be the best and the most user friendly. However for applications requiring finite element analysis, pro E(creo) coupled with ansys is very strong.
