What's the alternative to caged Nut (to adjust metal sheet on a tube)?

Hello, all is in the question. Is there a better approach than caged nut to get one metal sheet part to be adjusted on a second part, like a plinth in front of a tube bassement?
Thanks

If I understood the problem correctly. I would insert rivet nuts into a tube and create
slots instead of holes to allow a bit of clearance

Exact, the slot size depends on the adjustement of the plinth, but a slot in a tube requier an up to date machinery, not widely available with sub contractor, and cost more than just a metal sheet hole. AN option is to used seltf taping screw, but it did not exist in stainless steel, because stainless steel is not hard enough for self taping screw. We can also drill after installation, but that's time consuming.
